Summer Trip

So Kanna made an excellent point the other day: traditions may be created through spontaneity, but it takes effort to keep the worthwhile ones alive. If we skip out on one, it just makes it easier to make excuses in the future. In light of that, and because it takes all of us approximately 6 weeks to answer a friggin email, I'd like to start planning this summer's trip.

Owing to the fact some of us have already made other arrangements for the Fourth of July, we also need to consider available dates as a dimension this year.

What are some good time frames for people? What are some possible destinations? Should we do a unified activity like camping, or some random debauchery like we always do?

my thought/vote is towards a "unified activity" but it doesnt have to be limited to an outdoor trip. One aspect of the tahoe trip that i didnt think much about initially, but later came to appreciate, was that we were staying in a cabin and were going to cook every night. So, i suggest, regardless of where we go or what we do, that we rent a condo/house/cabin/etc. rather than stay in a hotel. i found several websites to facilitate such searches in a recent nytimes article (http://travel.nytimes.com/2010/01/10/travel/10pracsave.html?hpw).

in regards to when, it doesnt matter to me (the only perk of grad school)...i can be flexible to when others can make it.

and to add to azims list of locations (in no order of pref):

vancouver
austin
miami
montreal
savannah (or other place in south)
zion/bryce/yellowstone (or some other awesome park for camping, etc)

I'm leaning towards labor day weekend this year. I'm ok with whatever but really like the idea of camping, rafting down the grand canyon.

Boys I hate to be a cockbag but I have a family reunion on labor day weekend. So it looks like I could do (extended more than 2 day weekends) Memorial day or tgiving...

or a random weekend convergence.

Watching the Winter Games is making Vancouver look more and more awesome, don't you think?
